David Reynolds has dedicated his Pole Position at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 to his teammate Chaz Mostert, who was hospitalised after a shocking crash yesterday.
After causing controversy with some distasteful comments earlier in the week about an all-female team and the crash for Mostert yesterday, Reynolds was pleased to be making headlines for the right reasons.
“It’s a pretty good feeling,” he said. “I can put that stuff behind me now.”
“Yesterday was a pretty bad time. We have a driver in hospital that’s quite hurt and we’re all thinking about him at the minute. This is for Chaz.”
Second place man, Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin was just happy to be back in one piece.
“That was the hardest and scariest lap of my life,” he said.
“The hardest thing was that you didn’t know where to brake, you didn’t know how much road you could use and where it was going to be slippery.”
All 10 runners took a conservative approach in the tough conditions, with Jason Bright putting his BOC Commodore in third.
Preston Hire Racing’s Lee Holdsworth was fourth, Nissan’s James Moffat fifth, Kiwi wet weather specialist Shane van Gisbergen sixth, DJR Penske’s Scott Pye seventh and Red Bull’s Jamie Whincup eighth
.
This morning’s fast man and provisional pole sitter Fabian Coulthard was caught out by the heavy rain, and will start tomorrow’s race in ninth, with Tim Slade rounding out the ten.
The remainder of the starting grid was set in qualifying this morning, with some Championship contending stars left outside the top ten by the weather.
The 161-lap, 1000km endurance classic starts at 11:00am AEDT tomorrow morning.

Volvo’s SCOTT McLAUGHLIN will also start on the front row after posting the second fastest time on a rain soaked Mount Panorama.
