The Outlaw Modifieds would kick off their year in dramatic fashion as Tim Tolton would make a last lap pass to take the victory in their season opener at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night.

The night didn’t start out smoothly as on lap three of the qualifying race, Shannon Morris would get all out of shape and make contact with the inside retaining wall in turn two as he and A.J. Emms tried to split the lap car of the No. 40. Emms would go on to take the victory ahead of Tom Houghton, Dave Hodgkinson, Tolton, Lisa Hodgkinson, Chris Maxwell and the 40.

When it came to the feature, Maxwell would start pole ahead of Tolton, Dave Hodgkinson, Tom Houghton, A.J. Emms and the 40. Maxwell would take the early lead and began to grow a gap ahead of the field.

However as the laps wound down, Tolton began to close in and on the last lap off of the final corner, Tolton made the move underneath Maxwell and was able to take his No. 3 “The Phoenix” Modified owned by Brian Dean to victory lane. Maxwell would get second while trouble struck behind them when Emms would send Houghton for a spin. Emms got third ahead of Dave Hodgkinson while Tom Houghton ended up fifth ahead of the 40.
