Sean Cronan scores third place feature finish at Sunset Speedway

INNISFIL – On Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, Sean Cronan battled hard throughout the 50-lap feature to score a third-place feature finish.

Cronan started the night by finishing second in his heat, to qualify him for the Dash for Cash. Cronan avoided the first lap mishap in the Dash to score a second place finish.

When it came feature time, Cronan drew the 11^th place starting spot, though began his climb immediately to the front, running eighth by the first caution at lap four. There’d be a second caution two laps later, though once restarted, Cronan moved up into the seventh spot.

Cronan then got alongside Billy Zardo for sixth at lap 24, completing the pass before the caution flew for Nick Goetz going through the grass. On the restart, Cronan battled side-by-side with Box, completing the pass to crack the top-five. Cronan then caught Dario Capirchio and began hounding him for fourth when the caution flew once again at lap 21.

On the restart, Cronan would clear Box to once again begin stalking Capirchio for fourth. He got alongside Capirchio at the halfway mark, completing the pass a lap later. Cronan then ran solidly in the fourth spot, keeping ground with the leaders, till the fifth caution at lap 35 for a pair of cars going around.

Cronan would get a good restart, passing Taylor Holdaway to move into the third spot behind Jason Witty and Dwayne Baker. Cronan would catch Witty in the final laps of the even, though wasn’t able to pass him, solidly finishing in the third spot. It marks Cronan’s third top-five finish of the year and ties his best finish of the season to date.

Speaking of the season so far pre-race, Cronan commented that it’s been a good season, despite a couple of mechanical issues that have popped up.

“I’d say that we’re contending, we’re right there every night with the drivers that we want to be racing against,” he commented. “Need a little bit of a lady luck on our side to actually have a better starting spot and pull off what we believe we’re capable of doing. We believe that we can a feature here. There’s a lot of really fast cars and a lot of guys are equal so you need a little luck to start in front of those guys that you spend a lot of time racing with.

“I’m happy with it, though. It’s been a work in progress – have a bit of new racing team this year and new things going on. The family aspect of racing is new for me this year and learning how to deal with that stuff. All in all, I’d say it’s been a good year and I hope it continues the way it has been so far.”
