Dan Ferguson Caps June With Second Win Of Season At Brighton

BLOOMFIELD, Ont. (June 28, 2016) – Dan Ferguson ended the unofficial first half of the Brighton Speedway Canadian Modified season in style as the Bloomfield driver drove to his second win of the season on Saturday night.

The win caps a month that included three top-fives and continued a streak of seven consecutive top-10 finishes to begin the season for the Kilmarnock Enterprise/Mark Heating and Cooling/Cataraqui Woods Dentistry No.11. Saturday’s victory was Ferguson’s first since opening night on April 30.

“The car worked really well Saturday night. It wasn’t tight. It wanted to turn for me. That’s what you want out of your car,” Ferguson said. “It was a relief and great feeling to get the win. I’m glad we could finally pull one off.”

The win was in doubt for a split-second when Shawn Gregory spun in front of the field while Ferguson was running third. Fortunately, he avoided any significant contact.

“When Shawn came around, I had nowhere to go. Andrew (Hennessy) got in to the back of me, but he was in the same boat,” Ferguson explained. “It could have been a lot of worse. If Andrew didn’t lock up the brakes as quick as he did, it might have pushed me head on in to Shawn.”

The ‘Bloomfield Bullet’ lived up to his nickname over the remainder of the race, taking the lead from Doug O’Blenis to claim the 30-lap victory. While Ferguson’s car was strong on Saturday, he believes it was the result of a continued progression that began earlier in the month.

“The night we finished seventh, I felt the car was the best it’s been all year,” Ferguson said of the June 11 race. “To me, that shows everybody else has picked up their game. The car felt awesome, just those other six cars were that and more. We’re going to have nights like that.”

“If you make one mistake, everybody’s jumping all over you. Make two and they’re long gone,” Ferguson added.

With the increased level of competition, Ferguson and his No.11 team have been working consistently to improve. It’s a long process that takes place in small increments and for good reason.

“We’ve been changing a few little things here and there. You never want to take a big swing at fixing all the problems in one swipe because you don’t know what made it better. We’ll keep going and make little tweaks,” Ferguson explained.

Entering the month of July, Ferguson currently sits second in the championship standings, but he isn’t paying too close attention this early in the season. The team is preparing now for Brighton’s Mid-Season Canada Day Championships on July 2. The double points race is also the only time trial event of the year.

“We like that we get to time trial because it means we don’t automatically have to start at the back because of the handicap,” Ferguson said with a laugh. “Hopefully we can pull of a good lap and start up near the front.”

Time trials for the Mid-Season Canada Day Championship begin at 5:00pm before racing at 7:00pm. Complete event information is available at www.brightonspeedway.ca.

Ferguson Motorsports T-Shirts and Hoodies will be available for sale beginning on Saturday, July 2. T-Shirts are $25 each and Hoodies are $40. Stop by the courtyard in the grandstands or by the race trailer to purchase your No.11 team apparel.
