Shane Maginnis kept his winning ways going this year, scoring his second victory of the season in the Don Biederman Memorial at Flamboro Speedway.
The first heat saw a caution on Lap 2 as Gary Passer spun, collecting Charlie Gallant. Both drivers received significant damage with Gallant continuing as Passer pulled off into the pits. Roy Passer scored his fourth heat win of the season ahead of J.R. Fitzpatrick, Dustin Jackson and Gallant.
Shane Maginnis picked up his fourth heat victory of the season, followed by Tyler Hawn, Todd Campbell, Kelly Balson and Glenn Watson.
Maginnis went for the daily double in heat three ahead of Balson, Gary Passer and Jackson.
The fourth heat saw Fitzpatrick go for a quick spin on Lap 4 while racing Watson. Glenn Watson picked up his second heat victory of the season ahead of Hawn, Roy Passer, Fitzpatrick and Campbell.
Come feature time, it’d be Kelly Balson starting pole ahead of Roy Passer, Tyler Hawn, Shane Maginnis, J.R. Fitzpatrick, Glenn Watson, Dustin Jackson, Gary Passer, Todd Campbell and Charlie Gallant.
Off the drop of the green flag, Roy Passer put the No. 27 JENCO Equipment, Cabral Racing Promotions, and J.R. Motorsports Super Late Model out front ahead of Maginnis as Balson battled Watson for third. Watson was eventually able to complete the pass, taking the third spot on Lap 3 with Hawn running fifth.
At the front of the field, Maginnis quickly tracked down Passer for the lead, putting the No. 03 Super Late Model out front ahead of Passer, with Watson continuing to run third ahead of Balson and Hawn. Fitzpatrick ran sixth at Lap 6 ahead of Jackson, Campbell, Gallant and Gary Passer. Campbell then got alongside Jackson for seventh at Lap 12, completing the pass a lap later.
Fizpatrick began his climb to the front on Lap 17, passing Hawn for fifth, bringing Campbell through with him for sixth. Hawn now ran seventh ahead of Jackson, Gallant and Gary Passer.
Meanwhile, Watson got alongside Roy Passer for second at Lap 19, though was unable to complete the pass. Instead, Watson slowed in turn two with a rear-end problem, drawing the first caution flag of the night.
Maginnis got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Passer, Balson, Campbell and Fitxpatrick. Gallant had worked his way up to sixth ahead of Hawn and Jackson. Unfortunately, Jackson’s smooth run suffered a hiccup on Lap 35 as the rookie spun in turn two for the second caution.
Maginnis got another good restart ahead of Passer as Fitzpatrick and Balson battled for third. Fitzpatrick took the spot on Lap 37 ahead of Balson, with Hawn now up to fifth. Gallant continued to run strong in sixth ahead of Campbell.
Gallant began to close the gap on Hawn, tagging the rear of Hawn’s SLM on Lap 40. Hawn was able to keep it straight and remained in the fifth position. Unfortunately, here’d be more trouble to be had with Gallant going around for the spin and third caution at Lap 42.
The first attempt at a restart didn’t go smoothly, with Hawn going for the spin this time around.
The second attempt went smoothly with Shane Maginnis leading the rest of the way en route to his second victory of the year. J.R. Fitzpatrick finished second for his seventh top-five of 2016, followed by Roy Passer with his sixth top-five of the season. Kelly Balson finished fourth for his third straight top-four finish, with Gary Passer rounding out the top-five for his third top-five of the season.
Todd Campbell finished sixth for his fourth top-10 of the season, followed by Dustin Jackson, Tyler Hawn, Charlie Gallant and Glenn Watson. Notably, Gallant and Hawn went for a second spin each, following contact between the pair on the last lap.
OSCAAR would like to thank Dave Franks for the plaque Maginnis got to take home, as well as thanking Grisdales Race Products for their continued support of the series.
